Installing a LATCH-Compatible Child Seat Accord

ALATCH-compatible child seat can be installed in any of the rear seats. A childseat is attached to the loweranchors with either the rigid or flexible type of connectors.

  1. Locate the anchor marks affixed to the base of the seat cushion.

  2. Pull out the anchor covers under the marks to expose the loweranchors.
  3. Place the childseat on the vehicle seat, then attach the childseat to the loweranchors according to the instructions that came with the childseat. Make sure that the loweranchors are not obstructed by the seat belt or any other object.

  4. Open the tetheranchor cover behind the head restraint.
  5. Seats in the outer positions with adjustable headrest:Put the outer head restraint to its highest position, then route the tether strap between the head restraint legs, and secure the tether strap hook to the anchor. Make sure the strap is not twisted.

  6. Seats in the outer positions with straight top tether type and fixed headrest:Route the tether strap over the top of the head restraint and secure the tether strap hook to the anchor. Make sure the strap is not twisted.

Seats in the outer positions with other top tether type and fixed headrest:Route the tether strap over the side of the head restraint and secure the tether strap hook to the anchor. Make sure the strap is not twisted.

  7. Tighten the tether strap as instructed by the childseat manufacturer.
  8. Make sure the childseat is firmly secured by rocking it forward and back and side to side; little movement should be felt.
  9. Make sure any unused seat belt that a child can reach is buckled, the lockable retractor is activated, and the belt is fully retracted and locked.

W

Never attach two childseats to the same anchor. In a collision, one anchor may not be strong enough to hold two childseats attachments and may break, causing serious injury or death.

W

Do not use the lower inner anchors of the outer rear seats to secure a LATCH-compatible child seat to the rear center seat, unless the child seat manufacturer's instructions for that system permit the use of inner anchors with the stated spacing.
